A successful career in the Public Services or Outdoor Education sectors requires a great deal of skill and discipline paired with industry knowledge. There are many differing opportunities available to you across both sectors which may fill you with excitement. You will be required to be active, no two days are ever the same and the service you provide to the country/community will instil you with a great sense of pride.
If you are up for a challenge and considering a career in the uniformed services then our Public Services courses are for you. Essential qualities of physical fitness, determination, leadership and teamwork are put to the test. You will also learn and explore topics such as citizenship, land navigation, law and the legal system and expedition skills. Regular visits are made to local Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison and Military services to get practical hands-on experience.
With more centres across the UK than ever before the outdoor industry has a vast range of opportunities to offer. All our Outdoor Education programmes enable students to take part in a range of outdoor adventurous activities to support skill development, to visit successful outdoor centres whether commercial or charity based, to go away on expedition trips both in the UK and abroad and many other exciting features which enable learners to increase their employability prospects.
What our students say
“My favourite moment whilst studying for my Foundation Degree has to be our residential, where we paddled a stretch of the Ardeche River, mountain biked, climbed and walked in the South of France. This was a great experience to show how important team work is with the public services industry. On completion of my course I went to study the Top-up year at Plymouth University where I left with a 2:1 BSc (Hons) Degree.”
Hannah completed the Public Services with Outdoor Education Foundation Degree and currently works as the Chief Activity Instructor at Cannington Activity Centre.
“I always thought having dyslexia would stop me from pursuing my ultimate goal of serving as a paramedic, but if anything it has made me realise that there aren’t any barriers to overcome apart from my self belief. A highlight of my course was sailing on the 60ft tall ship, the Morning Star, not only did it improve my sailing skills but developed my ability in team working and leadership.”
Ben Hester completed the Foundation Degree in Public Services with Outdoor Education and is taking a gap year to teach sailing.
