Subject Information

Fitness training, survival exercises, skill development, rescue, road traffic collisions, overnight navigation and working alongside the local community are just some of the things you can look forward to on our Outdoor Education & Public Services courses. Why not be a part of a growing industry with increasing job prospects nationwide and abroad?

If you are up for a challenge and considering a career in the uniformed services then our Public Services courses are for you. Essential qualities of physical fitness, determination, leadership and teamwork are put to the test. You will also learn and explore topics such as citizenship, land navigation, law and the legal system and expedition skills. Regular visits are made to local Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison and Military services to get practical hands-on experience.

With more centres across the UK than ever before the outdoor industry has a vast range of opportunities to offer. All our Outdoor Education programmes enable students to take part in a range of outdoor adventurous activities to support skill development, to visit successful outdoor centres whether commercial or charity based, to go away on expedition trips both in the UK and abroad and many other exciting features which enable learners to increase their employability prospects.

What our students say

Public Services & Outdoor Education Student Karl Edwards

Karl Edwards

This course has given me the qualifications and life experience I need for a promising career in the Army. I’m so glad I came to College first.”

Karl Edwards has completed the Foundation Degree and is topping up to the Honours Degree at Plymouth University next year.

Public Services & Outdoor Education Student Ben Hester

Ben Hester

I always thought having dyslexia would stop me from pursuing my ultimate goal of serving as a paramedic, but if anything it has made me realise that there aren’t any barriers to overcome apart from my self belief. A highlight of my course was sailing on the 60ft tall ship, the Morning Star, not only did it improve my sailing skills but developed my ability in team working and leadership.”

Ben Hester completed the Foundation Degree in Public Services with Outdoor Education and is taking a gap year to teach sailing.
