Bridgwater & Taunton College has developed a comprehensive construction skills training offer that will equip businesses and their workforce with the unique skills, behaviours and competencies required to enable them to benefit from the major projects coming to Somerset in the next few years.
At the College practical work is supported by theory classes of underpinning knowledge, giving an all-round learning experience. Skills qualifications are now mandatory for most construction jobs and our courses will prepare you for the world of work and demonstrate a formal level of competence in any skills you may already have acquired within the industry.
There are progression routes in all sectors with a positive attitude towards achievement and Apprenticeships. The retention rates and achievement rates within the Construction Sectors are excellent with strong links with industry and employers both in the local community and beyond.
What our students say
“My favourite aspect of College was meeting new people. The staff and tutors helped me throughout the course by giving me extra support in and out of lessons and encouraging me when I felt like I couldn’t do the tasks. They helped me overcome barriers which I thought I would never get through. I also took the opportunity to become a College Ambassador, which I loved doing as I could help and support other people.”
Former student at our 14 – 16 Centre at Cannington, hopes to go on to Level 2 Plumbing and then gain a job working in the Plumbing industry.
“I love furniture making and I’m constantly thinking of the next thing I can build. I’ve had a fantastic time at Bridgwater College and winning the Screwfix Trade Apprentice Award has been the icing on the cake. Hopefully winning the award will help inspire others to take up such a rewarding profession.”
Former student of King Edward VI Community College in Totnes, Nadia has just taken on the role of Junior Joiner with Hayman Joinery.
