Subject Information

Fitness training, survival exercises, skill development, rescue, road traffic collisions, overnight navigation and working alongside the local community are just some of the things you can look forward to on our Outdoor Education & Public Services courses. Why not be a part of a growing industry with increasing job prospects nationwide and abroad?

If you are up for a challenge and considering a career in the uniformed services then our Public Services courses are for you. Essential qualities of physical fitness, determination, leadership and teamwork are put to the test. You will also learn and explore topics such as citizenship, land navigation, law and the legal system and expedition skills. Regular visits are made to local Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison and Military services to get practical hands-on experience.

With more centres across the UK than ever before the outdoor industry has a vast range of opportunities to offer. All our Outdoor Education programmes enable students to take part in a range of outdoor adventurous activities to support skill development, to visit successful outdoor centres whether commercial or charity based, to go away on expedition trips both in the UK and abroad and many other exciting features which enable learners to increase their employability prospects.

What our students say

Public Services & Outdoor Education Student Natalia Plywacz

Natalia Plywacz

I am a Team BC Activator which means that I help arrange sports activities at College. I used to be very shy and would not be able to lead a big group of students, now I lead sessions for Team BC Active on a weekly basis which has helped me improve my confidence and leadership skills. My Uniformed Public Services course is fantastic and has prepared me for my future career as a paramedic.”

Former pupil of Robert Blake Science College, hopes to go to university to study Paramedic Science on completion of her course.

Public Services & Outdoor Education Student Kelly Vincent

The course has given me a lot more confidence, my tutors have worked closely with me to push myself further and help me progress. This has made me a positive role model within the group and now others look to me for further help outside of lesson time. I have been selected to spend my summer in New York with Camp America teaching outdoor activities to young people.”

Former pupil of The Blue School in Wells, hopes to work in the outdoor education industry on completion of her course.
