Fisheries Management student lands Fish of a lifetime - Bridgwater & Taunton College

A Fisheries Management student from Bridgwater College caught a fish of a lifetime when he went fishing at local Hawkridge reservoir near Spaxton.

Luke Gwilliam visited the reservoir, which is owned by Wessex Water, for a day of fly fishing as part of his course when he hooked the 11lb rainbow trout just minutes after arriving. When reflecting on his experience, Luke said,

“I got the fright of my life when the fish struck. It took me over 30 minutes to land it and I was worried about it coming off the hook, so it was a relief when I got it into the net”.

Iain Turner, Programme Manager for Fisheries at Bridgwater College said,

“Luke has been an excellent student here at the college, progressing from the Level 2 Fisheries course to the Level 3. All of the students had a successful day, though Luke’s was the most memorable. What a way to end his course, with such a huge catch.”
