Subject Information

There is a varied world of exciting opportunities for professionals qualified in turf management and our former students have careers in world famous venues both in the UK and overseas.

Our Cannington campus is home to our Sports Turf courses and has an established reputation for its teaching and facilities; which includes an  9 hole, 18 tee golf course, driving range, rugby, football, and cricket pitches. You will develop the practical skills needed to maintain, present and repair all sports turf surfaces.

Students are involved in the management of the golf course and pitch and putt facilities. The Cannington campus is recognised as a GTC Centre of Excellence for greenkeeper training and education, which has been built up around its excellent resources. You will have the opportunity to attend seminars and go on visits to local and national courses.

What our students say

Sports Turf Student Matt Mackenzie

Matt Mackenzie

Training as an apprentice gives you much better knowledge of the job, as it’s practical, hands-on learning in the environment you want to progress into. You also have the benefit of studying the theory in College and achieving a recognised qualification as a result. The other bonus is that you earn a wage throughout. I was really pleased to get my apprenticeship placement at a great course and my employer has been really supportive of my training.”

Matt MacKenzie, former pupil of Haygrove School in Bridgwater, is completing his apprenticeship at a local golf course and hopes to secure full-time work on completion.
