Sixty students from Robert Blake Science College, Bridgwater College Academy, Chilton Trinity and Haygrove School recently visited Bridgwater College’s Modern Foreign Language’s Department to learn six new languages in an activity day.
The pupils had a worldwide languages tour experiencing Polish, Mandarin, Basque, Arabic, Catalan and Russian. The day gave the pupils an insight into the College, a chance to work with new people from different schools, while encouraging them to take up a language at College and generally to have fun with the skill.
Each language had its own activity for the pupils to get involved in, including learning a Basque dance and learning numbers in Russian and Chinese.
School pupil Siân Griffin, said,
“I’ve really enjoyed learning languages I thought I would never enjoy.”
Irena Hubble-Brezowski, Programme Manager for French said,
“The day is a superb introduction to new languages in a number of innovative ways! Mother tongue speakers of English with knowledge of another language are in short supply, so the more encouragement we can give to young people to learn a language the better!”
