The pupils had a worldwide languages tour experiencing Polish, Mandarin, Basque, Arabic, Catalan and Russian. The day gave the pupils an insight into the College, a chance to work with new people from different schools, while encouraging them to take up a language at College and generally to have fun with the skill.

Each language had its own activity for the pupils to get involved in, including learning a Basque dance and learning numbers in Russian and Chinese.

School pupil Siân Griffin, said,

“I’ve really enjoyed learning languages I thought I would never enjoy.”

Irena Hubble-Brezowski, Programme Manager for French said,

“The day is a superb introduction to new languages in a number of innovative ways! Mother tongue speakers of English with knowledge of another language are in short supply, so the more encouragement we can give to young people to learn a language the better!”
