The event brought together competitors from schools across Somerset with professional coaching advice available to all competitors along with equipment and bait for those who needed it to ensure the competition was open to all.
After a day of fishing, Eliot Hector, a Year 10 pupil from Heathfield School, was announced the winner having caught 3lb 6oz of fish. Jake Lewis, a Year 8 from Haygrove School, came a close second after catching 2lb 12oz of fish and Michael Collins, a Year 11 from Elmwood School, completed the top three, catching 1lb 7oz of fish. Virtually all of the competitors caught something and no one went away empty handed as there were prizes for everyone involved.
Iain Turner, Programme Manager for Fisheries Management, said,
“The day was a great success, bringing together pupils from across the area to compete in a friendly and fun match. We had some very kind donations of prizes from Somerset Angling, Fishwish Ltd, Burnham Angling and Summerhayes Fisheries. The College’s fisheries students did a fantastic job helping to organise and marshal the event, which provided them with good experience for future matches.”
