Cannington Golf Centre has been awarded the prestigious GolfMark accreditation, with ‘high achiever’ status, it has just been announced. The accreditation is an initiative of the English Golf Union and Women’s Golf Association which incorporates Sport England, and is nationally recognised for its high standards.
GolfMark is a scheme which identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities, by assessing three specific areas: Coaching and Playing; Club Environment (including sports equity and ethics); Child Protection and Duty of Care.
The GolfMark plaque was presented to the Chairman of the Members’ Committee Mark Hurrell by Paul Barrington, professional golf player and Regional Coach Development Officer for Somerset Golf Partnership.
“Attaining GolfMark status demonstrates a club’s commitment to junior golf and beginners and sets the standard for a safe and enjoyable learning environment”, said Paul. “I am delighted to come to Cannington to present this award, as Ron coached me when I was a child, and so it means a lot for me to see that the commitment to encouraging more young people to play and develop is continuing.”
“We are absolutely delighted that Cannington Golf Centre has been recognised as a high achieving centre for our junior and beginner players”, said Ron Macrow, Centre Manager. “Our Centre has outstanding facilities, including the 18 tee golf course, driving range, pitch and putt, clubhouse and pro shop, and we strive to meet the needs of all level of players.”
