College students coach football in all Bridgwater secondary schools - Bridgwater & Taunton College news

Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Level 3 Football Coaching students are coaching over 300 of Bridgwater’s school children every week as part of their college course. Sessions are taking place at Haygrove School, Chilton Trinity, Bridgwater College Academy and Robert Blake.

Each of the student coaches are working towards their FA Level 1 and 2 Coaching qualifications. The experience of coaching in schools gives them the opportunity to plan and deliver sessions as they would if they were working at a professional football academy.

Kyle Colclough, 17, said,

“Since I started this academic year I have been to various schools, including Bridgwater College Academy and Chilton Trinity School. Working with children and helping them improve their football is so rewarding. It’s helped me grow into a more confident coach.”

Jamie Laird, Level 3 Coaching Football Course Leader said, “To have the opportunity to take the students into a secondary school environment is fantastic. It provides them with real life situations that you can’t recreate at college. Each student has made progress not only in their coaching, but also in their soft skills such as confidence, communication and listening. It’s also great to have such a good relationship with so many surrounding schools. We are hoping to provide these opportunities in other schools in the future.”
