MP Visits 1610 to see Apprentice with Bridgwater & Taunton College in Action - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater & Taunton College and 1610 Leisure work together providing Apprenticeship programmes, with 1610 currently employing nine apprentices across a number of sites.

Recognised for this successful partnership working, James Heappey, MP for Wells Constituency, chose to visit to 1610’s King Alfred’s school site in Highbridge during National Apprenticeship Week, to meet with apprentice Michael Fawcett, and Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Employer Account Manager Amelia Davies.

Michael is on the Level 3 Personal Training Apprenticeship and is half way through the programme, combining study with work. Asked by James how often he had to go into College, Michael explained that all of his study is done at his place for work.

Amelia said,

“We can deliver the training part of the Apprenticeship at the employer’s location”. “Much of our Apprenticeship delivery can be done in this way, unless there is specialist equipment needed, which is then provided through the College’s excellent facilities.”

Michael put James through his paces, giving a tour of the centre and demonstrating the equipment by asking James to give it a go. James experienced the centre’s interactive light high intensity training and also had a go on a number of the gym machines. He was interested to find out about Apprenticeships in general, and how 1610 and Bridgwater & Taunton College were supporting Michael through his programme, for progression in employment in his chosen career.
