Production Arts’ Student finds success in the West End - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Oliver Lawford recently gained valuable work experience in London’s West End. Oliver gained the opportunity of working on the musical The Book of Mormon at the Prince of Wales Theatre, one of the most prestigious theatres in the country.

Oliver spent the week showcasing his lighting skills to professionals whom he impressed so much, he was given the opportunity to operate the lights himself under the watchful eye of the shows esteemed lighting operator.

Oliver said,

“Completing work experience in London was a big step, it really did show me that this is the career I want to go into and it is completely reachable.”

Oliver, previously of St Dunstan’s School, in Glastonbury is currently studying a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Production Arts which is a diverse programme aimed at launching students’ careers in live event production and operation studying a range of disciplines including lighting, sound, stage management as well as scenic and props construction.

Oliver said,

“I learn best in a practical way, so this course has really helped me expand my knowledge, it also provides lots of opportunities to develop my craft, especially having the McMillan Theatre to learn in and volunteer at.”

The College will be hosting a workshop and product demonstration with industry leading lighting manufacturer ROBE on the 23 June which is open to both members of the public as well as students on the course.
