Football coaching students taste another format of The Beautiful Game - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying the Level 2 and 3 Football Coaching courses at Bridgwater & Taunton College recently travelled to Swindon Futsal Arena to compete in a tournament against each other.

As part of their course, the trip posed an exciting opportunity for the students to experience another form of football, the ever growing game of futsal. During the week leading up to the trip, Somerset FA hosted a futsal workshop for the group to help them understand the rules of the game.

Throughout the tournament, the group were split into six teams, each playing two games in the group stages before battling it out for places in a 5th & 6th place match, 3rd & 4th places and finally the 1st & 2nd place final.

Josh Evans, who is a Level 3 Football Coaching student at the College said,

“I thoroughly enjoyed the day, it gave us a chance to play lots of football. Futsal is a much faster pace and challenges you a lot more technically than 11 vs 11. I would definitely recommend it to others that have the opportunity to play.”

Jamie Laird, Course Leader for the Level 2 course added,

“It was a great day and gave our students the opportunity to experience another format of the game. All games were played in a very respectable manner with lots of quality on show from everyone. Futsal is becoming more popular each year with the amount of participants growing continually, which gives our students another avenue to explore for both playing and coaching in the future.”
