Yeovil Centre Animal Management Students Xmas Charity Donation - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying the BTEC Extended Diploma Animal Management at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s Yeovil Centre, took a trip to St Giles Rescue Centre to deliver their charity collection.

St Giles Animal Rescue (previously called Dogs 4 Adoption) is a registered charity (1136251) based at St Giles Kennels in Wrantage, which is owned by the Linnell family. Here they are responsible for taking and caring for all of the stray dogs from three council areas; Taunton Deane, South Somerset & West Somerset. They also board dogs and cats on behalf of the RSPCA South East and South West branch, and while in their care the team help find them forever homes.

The animal management students became aware of a news report where St Giles Rescue Centre had recently taken in a substantial amount of dogs that need supportive care and attention before they can be rehomed with loving families. It was clearly evident that these animals would be at the Centre for Christmas and wouldn’t have the comfort and enjoyment that others would be experiencing with their pets during this time.

Students met with staff at the Centre and were introduced to some of the canine residents who are currently seeking new homes. As a result the students organised a collection of treats, foods, toys and blankets to help spread the Christmas cheer at the Kennel.

Course Representatives Bryony Carter and Nessa Harris took lead in organising the group efforts and arranged the visit. Briony said,

“It’s the small things that can make all the difference to those animals not fortunate enough to yet have loving families.”
