Football Report: Team BTC Elite vs Exeter College - Bridgwater & Taunton College

After a disappointing loss to Exeter the week before, Team BTC fought back with a vengeance and responded in the perfect way with a dominant 6 – 1 win.

Star man of the game was Ollie Hucker, who moved out of his comfort zone and usual position of centre back to create a very good partnership and winning combination with Corey Hucker.

Team BTC started very brightly with their first chance coming from a through ball from Kieron Ireland putting Jordan Lovibond in an ideal position as he rounded the keeper and thought he had scored, stopped only by a great piece of defending by the Exeter defender who made a clearance off line. Team BTC continued to press for the opening goal however due to a poor final pass or final shot they came in at half time 0 – 0.

Exeter started the second half strong and within the first minute could have taken the lead with some poor defending allowing them to pick up the 2nd ball, however Liam Kingston made a good save.

On 55 minutes a long ball from Kingston wasn't dealt with and allowed Ryan Brereton to come of the line and round the keeper to put Team BTC 1 – 0 up.

At 65 minutes another loose ball gave Exeter an opportunity to equalise when they were first to the ball, controlling it into the box and into the back of the net. This didn't phase Team BTC, and on 70 minutes Josh Evans, who was a nuisance up front to Exeter College all second half, scored with a volley over keeper from 25 yards to put them back in front.

The score became 3 – 1 on 75 minutes. Ryan Brereton, with his first touch after coming back onto the pitch after being subbed, scored from just outside the box into bottom corner.

With the game now won, Team BTC showed ruthlessness that has sometimes been missed and on 85 minutes Jordan Lovibond redeemed his earlier miss by showing good composure to finish after being first to react in box.

The final 4 minutes saw Jack Hobbs, who is improving every game, drive into the box and place his shot into the bottom corner to make it 5 – 1.

The impressive score was completed by Cole Wall, who made his debut for Team BTC, eventually got the ball onto his left foot and placed it right into the top corner leaving the keeper to only watch as it flew in.

Team BTC Head Coach, Jamie Laird said,

“The players showed their superiority especially in the final 15 minutes with their precise finishing. The team know that there is still plenty of things they can do better on and off the ball which we will continue to work on to improve them as players.”
