Lambing Fun Day, a Baa-rilliant day Out! - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Over 5,500 people flocked to Rodway Farm in Cannington for Bridgwater College’s ninth Lambing Fun Day, the biggest and best yet.

The sun was shining, the lambs were bleating and everyone who attended was in great spirits. It was the perfect family day out with children cheering on their favourite sheep in the sheep race and releasing ferrets from their traps in the ferret race, while others were stunned at the Ben Long Falconry displays and the NAWT Dog Agility performances. The Sedgemoor Vintage Club Ltd’s farm machinery was a great attraction with children climbing all over the tractors and interacting with the machinery itself.

Many guests enjoyed picnics on the perfect spring day, while others tasted the delights of Purple Spoon’s paella, award winning pies from The Humble Pie Co, freshly squeezed lemonade from Hullabaloos Rocks and others indulged in food delights from the Farmers Market.

Laura Oxborough, Land-based Events Organiser said,

“It is a fantastic feeling to know I have organised an event the general public thoroughly enjoyed. The feedback we have received from both attendees and stall holders is great and we are looking at making next year’s event even better. The event was the most successful it has ever been and I feel privileged to have been a part of it.”

Jason Gunningham, Assistant Principal for Land-based, Business and Sports said,

“Raising the profile of agriculture within the county and the presence of our Agriculture Innovation Centre is at the forefront of training and preparing the next generation of farmers to pursue a career within the agricultural sector. It is great the community can come and see Rodway Farm and experience the livestock our students work with each day.

“The staff, students and stallholders who attended the event put a huge amount of effort and commitment into the event organisation and I would like to thank them for their efforts.”
