Business students consider a career in Law - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Over recent weeks, Business students at Bridgwater College have had the opportunity to take part in a programme of guest speakers from a variety of industries. The latest speaker was Richard Haste, partner at Amicus Law.

Richard, who has been a lawyer for more than 20 years, started his career as a court room lawyer in London before moving to Somerset and establishing his firm, Amicus Law in Taunton. Amicus Law deals mainly with family law, wills and probate, property and employment law. Richard is an accredited Court and Police Station Duty Solicitor.

Richard spoke about life as a lawyer. He explained how he developed his knowledge and experience working in small firms in London before starting his own business, Amicus Law. The group had a great insight into the types of law they could specialise in, pay scales they can expect and the personal skills required to succeed in the industry.

The session concluded with Richard advising the students on how to begin a career in law, giving tips and information about various courses they can take to enhance their suitability and employability to the role.

Abbie Brogden, Work Placement Coordinator for Business Management and Computing at Bridgwater College said,

“Richard spoke passionately about his career, which really inspired our students to consider this route for their future. Many of our students are undecided on their future careers, so to have the opportunity to listen to Richard, who is not only very successful in his field, but has also started his own business, was truly inspirational to our students.”
