Beth Newton, Eric Evans and five members from the Team BC trampolining squad have qualified to represent the college and the region at the AoC Sport National Championships in 2016.
The team from Bridgwater College fought off stiff competition from colleges across South West to win two gold medals, and a further 5 squad places which qualifies them for the national finals taking place in Tyne & Wear in April 2016.
The National Championships will see the team competing against athletes from colleges across England, Wales and Scotland. As well as individual glory, teams will be aiming to accumulate points for their region and win the prestigious Wilkinson Sword trophy.
Mason Galloway, Interim Head of Team BC and Sports Development Manager said,
“We are extremely proud of all of our students who have taken part in the regional events over the past few weeks and would like to congratulate them on their achievements. The AoC Sport National Championships are a highly prestigious event and to have students qualify from Bridgwater College is a massive achievement, not only for us as College but for our students as well.”
AoC Sport Managing Director, Marcus Kingwell said,
“We are really excited about this year’s National Championships, which will be hosted in Tyne and Wear for the first time. Everything is in place for the 2016 Championships to be the most successful to date and we anticipate they will be the perfect platform to reinforce our new strategy: ‘Fit for College, Fit for Work, Fit for Life’, which outlines our ambition to get every student active.”
The AoC Sport National Championships are now in their 38th year and remain the largest student sporting event in the UK, with nearly 1,800 students taking part last year. Colleges will compete in 14 different sports over a three-day period, taking place in some of the best facilities in the country.
