Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest campaign to promote entrepreneurship, it encourages the next generation of entrepreneurs to consider starting up their own business. On November 19th 2015 the Level 2 and Level 3 year 1 Business and Travel students held their own event in The College Hub, the groups worked in teams selling a variety of different products.

A total of 15 stalls selling products from cakes, sweets and doughnuts to lip balm, waffles and milkshakes participated in the event. All the teams worked hard, however, two of our teams caught the eye of our Key Note speaker Danny Kavanagh “Hug in a Mug” and “K.I.M”.

Principal Mike Robbins took time out of his busy schedule to come to The Hub to see all our students in action, spending time with each team discussing how they were getting on and passing on his advice.

All Level 3 Year 1 Business: Jorja Williams, Cameron Razzaq, Katy Chinnock, Daniel Garland, Harriet King

Following the event, our key note speaker, Danny Kavanagh, company director of Media Orb, a local business that Danny began with a colleague in 2011 talked about the small beginnings of his company and the growth from 4 clients to a client base of over 400. Danny was able to share his experiences of developing a small business in a competitive market.

Michelle Depuis, Head of Department for Business, Management and Computing was delighted with the success of the event. This activity has enabled students to develop their creativity, problem solving, communication, selling, team work and mathematical skills, where students are tasked with designing a product, packaging it, developing a marketing and sales strategy. Students have also benefited from the expertise of Dannah Kavanagh Director of Media Orb and is his vast commercial presence and expertise.

The whole event was a huge success, the students raised over £200 during the day for numerous charities including McMillan Cancer Support, In Charley’s Memory, BIBIC, Children In Need and Bloodwise.
