Cousins join Ladies football coaching team - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Yeovil Town Ladies FC’s educational partner Bridgwater College, has received a welcomed boost to its personnel, following the appointment of Welsh International and Yeovil Town Ladies first team player Nicola Cousins, who has joined the coaching team.

Cousins, who is a UEFA B license coach, will work alongside Head Coach Trevor Jenkins, to deliver a comprehensive programme, designed for talented female footballers across the region.

Cousins, who is also a head coach at the newly formed Team BC and Yeovil Town Ladies FC female development centre, will bring a wealth of experience, with knowledge of exactly what it takes to become an elite level female footballer, due to her current credentials as a player.

Bridgwater College has won yet another AoC Beacon Award for Sport in the Curriculum, for inspiring its students through sport. This is the College’s 14th Beacon Award, the largest amount any college has won throughout the whole of the country and with Cousins now recruited, it will only improve further.

Cousins had this to say about her appointment,

“To work in this environment is exciting. Yeovil Town Ladies in partnership with Bridgwater College are determined to offer one of the best playing and training opportunities for female college players and these talented players can experience in excess of 13 hours per week of contact time.

“I feel my experience of playing both Womens Super League football, as well as International football, will enable me to help guide those talented players and I feel I can help support their future.”

Jason Gunningham, Assistant Principal for Land Based, Business and Sport at Bridgwater College said,

“We are absolutely delighted to have Nicola working alongside Trevor Jenkins within the Team BC Women's Football squad. Our education and Football Performance programme with Yeovil Town Ladies Football Club is an exciting and unique opportunity for female students who wish to receive an outstanding education and be part of a football scholar programme with the club.

“Having Nicola join the coaching staff will enable the football scholars to have another fantastic role model and gain first hand experience of working alongside a current elite international and WSL player and no other female footballers in Somerset will have this opportunity unless they study here.

“Our partnership is going from strength to strength and we look forward to welcoming our new set of football scholars in September 2016.”
