Students support delivery of sport at Bridgwater College Academy - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Through the 1st4sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport, Bridgwater College apprentices have supported the effective delivery of sport across a wide age range at Bridgwater College Academy.

Bridgwater College provides their apprentices with on-the-job training that equips them to take sole responsibility for the planning and delivery of high quality Physical Education for the primary phase. The induction and training they receive is bespoke, focusing on their individual needs and fully preparing them for their next career steps.

Our apprentices, as a result of their experience at Bridgwater College Academy, now have aspirations to take their learning further, through Foundation Degrees and teacher training.

Mrs Louise Duffin, Head Teacher of the Primary Phase at Bridgwater College Academy said,

“Our committed Sports apprentices have greatly impacted on the quality of physical education and sport provision across the primary phase. They contribute significantly to a wide range of extra-curricular sporting opportunities for our children and provide invaluable support at social times too. They are an amazing addition to our staff.”

Julie Williams, Training Advisor for Sport, Outdoor Education and Public Services said,

“Sports apprenticeships through Bridgwater College are becoming a more viable option for young adults wishing to both 'earn and learn' locally within the sports sector. Schools and businesses now have an affordable and viable option with how it is possible to raise the bar with regards to their physical education/sports delivery offering. A sports apprentice, can help support the delivery of a wider range of sports or activities before, during and after the traditional school day.

“Sports apprentices, present alongside a teacher or external sports provider during curriculum PE delivery, are ensuring pupils get greater feedback and engagement during lessons. It is hoped this will both enhance the physical literacy learning environment and raise sporting standards.”
