Coaching students organise and run a fantastic football tournament - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying Level 2 Coaching Football in Community Settings Course at Bridgwater College organised and ran a primary schools tournament in partnership with sports company SASP.

The students were in charge of setting the pitches up, delivering arrival activities, officiating, scoring, escorting primary school pupils from the car park and photography. This is all in conjunction with their Leadership through Football qualification, which all students work towards as an additional qualification to their level 2 course.

Participants from the Tournament

Ryan Catterall, a student from Martock, Yeovil said,

“Personally I think the tournament we ran on Monday was extremely beneficial. Everyone on our course knew what jobs had to be done and everyone worked well as a team. For me, it's has helped me gain confidence in refereeing. I was ok with refereeing beforehand but the tournament has helped me gain more confidence.

“I also feel like I can go and coach a group of players by myself. This is because when doing the arrival activities I took one group aside by myself I gave them an arrival activity to do in order for them to stay warm. Personally what I have learnt from doing the tournament is how to manage and organise a large event and I look forward to the next three in January.”

Nancy Murdoch, SASP co-ordinator said,

“It was great to have so many students developing their officiating skills and providing additional participation opportunities for the young children in these schools. Many thanks to Bridgwater College for your excellent work at the competition, and we look forward to developing our already successful partnership.”
