Bridgwater College have welcomed two new signings into their Elite Team BC Football squad this academic year.

Finley Wilkinson, formerly of Kings Of Wessex School in Cheddar and Reece Malcolm, from Yeovil, have both enrolled at Bridgwater College with the attraction of the College’s Team BC Football provision being an exciting factor in them wanting to combine their academic studies with elite sport performance. 

Both student athletes will play in the Elite South West Football League on a Wednesday afternoon and also play in the South West Counties Youth League on Saturday mornings within the Colleges U18 partnership team with Bridgwater Town FC.

Left back, Finley, who originates from Plymouth said,

“The opportunity to train and be coached everyday by top class coaches alongside my A Level study programme is fantastic. The facilities are great and being able to play twice a week in high level elite football leagues is amazing.”

Reece, who plays at centre back and was a former JPL player for Yeovil Town FC and is studying a Level 3 Sports Science course, added

“When choosing where to go to college after school I wanted to go nowhere else other than Bridgwater College. I knew that they offered the best combination of academic study and football opportunities, as previous students have gone on to play for semi-professional and professional teams and have also gained scholarships in America and even play for the National Football Colleges Team. I cannot wait for the College season to start and playing on Saturday's offers high quality games and a perfect pathway for me to progress into the Reserve team at Bridgwater Town.”

Lecturer and Bridgwater Town U18 Manager, Tom Sage said,

“We are delighted to have Finley and Reece join us at the College and club and they have trained really well over the summer at our pre-season football camps. They are both talented young players and with the opportunity to combine outstanding academic studies with the elite football programme I am sure they will have a fantastic experience here at Bridgwater College.”
