Local Filmmakers heading for the Royal Television Awards - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Two Bridgwater College alumni have recently been nominated for the Wales Centre Royal Television Awards.

Becki Howes and Catherine Attwood studied the Media Production course at Bridgwater College before moving on to Newport University to study the BA in Documentary, Film and Television and the BA in Film and Video Studies.

Former Bridgwater College student Becki Howes.

Becki Howes, from Cannington, has been nominated for her documentary ‘Men in Stripes’. The film is about a group of 12 men in Kotka, Finland who meet up fortnightly to practise gymnastics. It is a film exploring the oddities of life and how different things make people happy.

Since the nominations were announced, Becki has been approached by the BBC about upcoming projects. She commented on her nomination,

“It is still quite a shock, all nominations for factual documentaries are from Newport Film School so it's an honour to be recognised along with my classmates!”

Catherine Attwood, from Chedder, crowd-funded her fictional film ‘The Bullet Catch’ with her production team. In it, a magician tries to perform a famous trick for the first, and potentially, last time. The winners of the Wales Centre Royal Television Awards will go through to the prestigious Royal Television Society Awards in May.

Both Becki and Catherine will be visiting Bridgwater College in May to showcase their films and do a Q&A with current students.
