Careers day for Football Coaching Students - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater College students studying Level 2 and 3 Diploma Football Coaching in Community Settings were given a valuable insight into the coaching industry by three experienced professionals.

Tom Sage (Prodec Tutor), Michelle Yeowell (Programme Manager), Javier Gorodi (FA Skills Coach), Justin Burke (Pro Coaching), Brendan Dix (Somerset FA County Development Manager), Andy Gill (Programme Manager), Mason Galloway (Prodec Tutor).

The students met with Brendan Dix, Justin Burke and Javier Gorodi to listen, share experiences, ask questions and discuss the required skills for students to develop and achieve.

Brendan Dix, New County Development Manager for The Somerset Football Association, said,

“I am very much a local lad who grew up playing football in Somerset and I will continue to work hard to ensure football benefits within our county. I am fully aware of some of the fantastic things that happen in grassroots football day in, day out, through superb and dedicated volunteers, and we will continue to support and provide assistance through our committed members of staff.”

Pro-Coaching was founded in 2001 by Justin Burke. After completing his Leisure and Sports Management Degree and P.G.C.E. in Physical Education, Justin decided that along with his sports coaching qualifications and keen interest in working with children, he had both the business acumen and drive to create a successful sports coaching company of his own. Justin will be returning to Bridgwater College in May with a view to recruit current students for his company.

Javier Gorodi, a FA Skills Coach, is a former student at Bridgwater College who has come through the football coaching programme himself, so understands the demands and the skills to gain employment within the industry. FA Skills is a nationwide initiative run by The Football Association and funded by Sport England, providing after-school football coaching, holiday football coaching, support for charter standard football clubs and also work within primary schools.

Andy Gill, Programme Manager for Football Coaching said,

“Students gained some excellent knowledge and advice during the careers day. All the guest speakers have achieved through hard work, experience and determination. If students were to take anything from the day, this would be it. I would like to thank Brendan Dix, Justin Burke and Javier Gorodi for visiting our students and sharing their experiences.”
