Men’s football Report: Team BC Elite vs Ivybridge - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Team BC Elite Football stormed back to the top of the league with a comprehensive 8 – 1 win away at Ivybridge College.

Bridgwater started the game at a frantic pace with in form striker Stan Smith scoring a quick fire double putting the away side 2 – 0 up after only eight minutes with two well taken goals.

It was 3 – 0 after 20 minutes when the impressive Charlie Harding whipped in an excellent cross and Harry Fitchew was on hand to bundle in from close range. Bridgwater took their foot off the pedal for the remainder of the 1st half and went in to half time with a deserved 3 – 0 advantage.

The second half continued in a similar theme, with Bridgwater creating chances at will but it Ivybridge who scored against the run of play when Bridgwater failed to defend a free kick and the ball was turned in at the near post.

Bridgwater put the game to bed with 30 minutes left after Charlie Bridges scored a neat finish from a tight angle.

It was 5 – 1 minutes later when Ross Panes scored the goal of the game when he hit a thunderous volley from the edge of the box which left the home goalkeeper with no chance.

Substitute Kieran Giles made it 6 – 1 after he poked home from three yards when the keeper failed to deal with Charlie White's well struck free kick.

It was 7 – 1 when striker Fitchew doubled his personal tally with another close range finish and the scoring was complete when skipper Smith completed his hat trick from the penalty spot after Charlie Bridges was chopped down in the box.

Team BC Football Head Coach, Luke Buckingham said,

“It was a comprehensive victory today and the players fully deserved the score line after applying themselves well throughout. We managed to keep high standards throughout the game, even when the outcome of the game was decided, and that's credit to each of the player’s professionalism. The victory keeps us in the hunt for the league title and we know if we apply ourselves like we can, we are a match for anyone in the league.”
