Countryside Management students visit National Nature Reserve - Bridgwater & Taunton College

A group of Bridgwater College students studying Level 3 Countryside Management recently attended an awareness day organised by Plantlife and delivered by Project Manager Rachel Jones, to learn about Lichens within Horner Woods National Nature Reserve on Exmoor.

Plantlife is an organisation that aims to raise the profile and beauty of wild flowers, plants and fungi. Lecturer Alan Sinclair said,

“The Project being run by Plantlife is an ideal opportunity for students to raise their awareness and identification skills of lichens, both from an individual level, and to understand the wider Atlantic woodland habitats and ecology.”

Student Kevin Dixon said,

“It was a fascinating day out for the group, and despite the heavy rain we learned useful identification techniques relating to an often forgotten plant group.”
