Spirits were high at Bridgwater College again this year as staff and students filled the College with fancy dress in the annual Raise and Give (RAG) Day, raising approximately £8000 so far, with money still rolling in.
This year the chosen charities are MIND, the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Hospital. The money was raised from fundraising before the event and on the day, as well as activities around the College including a photo booth, DJ showcase, sumo suits and a fashion show. One of the highlights of the day was the RAGfest concert in the town centre. Music students from around the College put together an exciting set from classical songs to Christmas hits. Headlining the event was the College’s Music Academy with a lively covers set.

“RAG day is the biggest event in the College calendar for the Student Union. Every year we organise a great day full of activities and most importantly raise a huge amount of money for local charities. This year all charities have directly affected our students or their families’ lives. It is also a chance for students to enjoy themselves and be part of the College community!”
The College worked closely with Avon and Somerset Police to ensure that the day was safe and enjoyable for all. Mark Nettle, Head of Student Services at Bridgwater College, commented,
“We wanted to make sure that everyone had a safe and enjoyable day whilst causing as little disruption as possible to the community. We offered an action packed programme within the College to encourage our students to stay with us which has resulted in both the students and the surrounding community enjoying their day, and a fantastic sum of money being raised for some very worthwhile charities.”
