Bridgwater College’s new theatre, being built by BAM Construction, is proceeding ahead of schedule and should be open by the summer of 2015.
The steel structure is in place and the framework and brickwork are soon to be added. The topping out ceremony took place recently, with the tightening of the final nut and bolt on the roof level handrail marking completion of the tallest part of the building. The next phase of building work will concentrate on making the structure watertight by installing windows and the roof.
A number of student groups have visited the site, particularly from within the Construction curriculum, offering students an insight into a working building site, where they have had first-hand experience of planning, health and safety and construction techniques.
“It’s been great to see the Centre develop over the past few months and we are really appreciative of the effort from the construction team keeping us ahead of schedule. The whole team and all the students are very excited about moving into the space next year and there have been some fantastic ideas about how the venue can be used. The new Centre is an exciting prospect for the whole community and we look forward to welcoming everyone next year.”
Richard Dewey, BAM Project Manager said,
“The completion of the building superstructure is always a significant milestone in any construction project. We now look forward to getting the building watertight as quickly as possible to allow for the commencement of the internal finishes.”
