Who is the course for?

This would appeal to those who use pedestrian controlled mowers as part of their work, i.e. those who work as a groundsman, greenkeeper or in amenity horticulture.

What does the course involve?

The course will cover all elements of operation and safe use of the equipment including:

  • Health and safety
  • Use of PPE for mower operations
  • Controls and instruments
  • Adjustment of cutting units
  • Checks and maintenance of mowers
  • How to work safely and minimise environmental damage
  • Operating principles of powered equipment

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

What are the assessment methods?

Integrated assessment by City & Guilds.

  • Observation of practical performance
  • Assessment of underpinning knowledge

Endorsements may be taken on a machine with any type of cutting mechanism and candidates are encouraged to take their assessment with different cutting mechanisms to broaden their certification. The Certificate will be endorsed accordingly. Cutting mechanisms include cylinder, rotary, flail, reciprocating knife and greens machines with interchangeable units.

How long is the course?

This is generally a one day course, dependant on experience. Plus assessment.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

Cost of course includes City & Guilds assessment fees on one type of cutting mechanism. Additional assessments with different cutting mechanisms will be charged extra.
