Who is the course for?

This course is for competent computer users who wish to gain an industry recognised advanced Level 3 qualification to support their job role or career progression.  For those wishing to develop in advanced spreadsheets and databases, be considered an expert in word processing and PowerPoint then this course gives the certification to evidence this. This qualification enables learners to apply for associate membership with the BCS and qualify for having AMBCS after your name.

The modules cover advanced techniques used for editing, layout, document organisation and printing and include the use of macros.

Entry Requirements

  • Confident computer skills
  • Successful completion of the ECDL at Level 2, and ECDL Level 2 database module
  • Relevant Office experience

What are the assessment methods?

An exam at the end of each of the modules; lots of practice to ensure learners are ready, with a number of resit opportunities if needed.

How long is the course?

30 weeks.

What are the College attendance requirements?

Three hours per week in College plus an element of home study particularly in preparation for examinations.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

Many learners elect to continue studying by participating in other part-time computing and IT programmes. Database and Spreadsheets for Business is one such progression route.

Destinations

Most learners complete the course to develop skills in common applications to improve their efficiency and progress at work. Some learners use the course to develop skills that assist them in their search for further advancement or alternative employment. Those with a Level 3 BCS qualification are highly sought after by employers.
