Course Overview

The duration of this course is 11-13 weeks.

This qualification aims to develop the learner’s knowledge and understanding in giving information, advice or guidance.

As part of this course you will study five mandatory units:

UNIT 1 – Developing interaction skills for information, advice or guidance

  • Section 1 How to interact with clients
  • Section 2 Effective communication and listening skills in delivering information, advice and guidance
  • Section 3 How your own values, beliefs and attitudes may affect interactions with clients
  • Section 4 The importance of confidentiality and impartiality in interactions with clients
  • Section 5 Developing your own interaction skills

UNIT 2 – Information, advice or guidance work in practice

  • Section 1 The difference between information, advice and guidance
  • Section 2 Identifying and meeting the needs of clients
  • Section 3 The boundaries of your own role in meeting the needs of clients
  • Section 4 Accurate client record keeping

UNIT 3 – Information, advice or guidance work with groups

  • Section 1 The role of group work in information, advice and guidance
  • Section 2 Factors that influence group sessions
  • Section 3 Planning, conductingandevaluating information, advice and guidance sessions
  • Section 4 Facilitating group work

UNIT 4 – Managing information

  • Section 1 Appropriateresourcesforinformation, adviceandguidance
  • Section 2 How to access resources
  • Section 3 The range of clients for whom resources are provided

UNIT 5 – Signposting and referral – information, advice or guidance

  • Section 1 Appropriate signposting and referrals
  • Section 2 Implementing organisational referral procedures
  • Section 3 Good practice when referring or signposting clients
  • Section 4 Monitoring and evaluating referrals

Assessment Methods

Assessments are due at the end of each unit. Your tutor will assess your work and build up your portfolio of evidence of learning. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory submission of evidence of learning for the units studied.

Spotlight

I decided to do Level 2 Business which I thoroughly enjoyed which made me chose to develop my understanding of Business and so then I went on to do Level 3 in Business. I have gained confidence, knowledge and multiple skills throughout the course and It has helped me to understand what I want to do in the future.
