Who is the course for?

A practical course designed for the professional user or anyone who requires the National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) Certificate of Competence.

What does the course involve?

The course will cover current legislation, operation, safe use and maintenance of a chainsaw and the felling of trees up to a diameter of 379mm.

What makes this course special?

The course gives the practical skills and underpinning knowledge that is required prior to being assessed for the Certificate of Competence, as required by current legislation.

Entry Requirements

Learners must already hold the NPTC Certificate of Competence CS30 and be able to maintain and operate a chainsaw. The following materials will also be required:

  • Steel-toe capped boots
  • Lunch - a packed lunch and flask, as ythe majority of the course is off-site

The use of a chainsaw and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are provided: chainsaw boots, trousers, helmet and gloves. Leaners may also bring their own equipment should they wish.

What are the assessment methods?

A practical assessment with an external assessor for NPTC CS31 following the four-day course.

How long is the course?

This course in run on demand. The course will run for 21 hours within one week.

What are the progression options?

This course is a pre-requisite of progressing to NPTC CS32, CS38, and CS39.
