Who is the course for?
This is for people working in Administration in any sector. The Level 2 qualification is intended for those whose role involves carrying out a broad range of administrative activities, requiring minimal supervision and working with some autonomy. Learners will often be working as part of a team ensuring the provision of information and resources to others.
What does the course involve?
The NVQ is related directly to the learners job role and helps learners to reflect on their performance at work and review their working practices. It provides a personal development opportunity and enhances efficiency within organisations. This programme will run on an individual basis and the Assessor will advise on how to build an online portfolio of evidence which reflects the learners ability at work.
Candidates must achieve a minimum of 21 credits. Completion of the mandatory units will provide nine credits. The remainder will be achieved by completing a selection of optional units (depending on credit values and rules of combination).

- Work in a business environment
- Communicate in a business environment
The most frequently chosen optional units can include:
- Work with other people
- Produce documents
- Support the organisation of an event or meeting
- Make and receive telephone calls
- Use diary systems
- Provide reception services
- Meet and welcome visitors
- Store and retrieve information
- Use office equipment
There are many more units to choose from depending on the learners' job role and opportunities for assessment. The Assessor will help to identify the most appropriate units.
What makes this course special?
Our NVQs are fully supported through the online portfolio system (OneFile). Candidates have access to their portfolio online in order to upload work, view progress to date (shown as a total percentage) and to contact their dedicated Assessor. The portfolio can be accessed at any time, e.g. at home or in the workplace which makes the submission of work much simpler.
This is a competence-based qualification so it is vital that learners work within an administrative setting. Working within a business environment gives learners real experience to draw from when providing evidence for their NVQ and when working towards their specific competencies.
It is important that learners are working within an administrative position already before enrolling onto the NVQ.
All candidates must be in appropriate administrative roles. Prior to enrolment, an Assessor will arrange to meet learners and discuss their job role with them to ensure that it will afford them sufficient scope to provide all of the evidence required.
What are the assessment methods?
There is no requirement to attend College. The Assessor will assess in the workplace and will provide an induction onto the online portfolio and through subsequent contact, will carry out observations at work, obtain testimonies from colleagues, carry out professional discussions with the learner, set knowledge questions and use appropriate work product.
How long is the course?
It is expected that the qualification will take up to 18 months to achieve however, candidates work at their own pace so can achieve as quickly as they wish (usually around one year), taking into account contact with their Assessor.
What are the progression options?
There are progression opportunities onto the Level 3 NVQ in Business & Administration or perhaps into Customer Service or Team Leading. We also offer knowledge based qualifications in Customer Service and Team Leading at Level 2, which would provide further knowledge on the subjects and are certificated.
