Who is the course for?

GCSE English is a core subject essential for many jobs and for progression on most courses. It will be an integral part of all programmes if you do not already hold a GCSE A*– C.
What does the course involve?
The aim of the course is to enhance your communication skills by equipping you to read, write, speak and listen effectively. The course includes study of:
- Fiction and non-fiction texts including multimodal and media material.
- Class and group discussion
- Research tasks.

Entry qualification is GCSE English /English Language Grade D or 3 (a certificate must be produced) with additional assessment taken on entry to college. Please note that you will need to apply for this course, and should not enrol online.
What are the assessment methods?
Assessment will be through:
- Either, Unit 1 & Unit 2 exams, PLUS Speaking & Listening
- Or, Unit 1 exam & Unit 2 Personal Project, PLUS Speaking & Listening
(Teaching staff will give detailed information during first week of course.)
How long is the course?
One year; part time.
What are the progression options?
Successful achievement of your GCSE English will help you to progress to other courses, employment and university.
