Who is the course for?
This Level 2 course is designed to be suitable for people who volunteer or work in early years settings such as preschools or nurseries. It is assessed in a work situation and combines knowledge and practical skills. It is a flexible programme. Allow up to three terms to complete.
What does the course involve?
This course comprises a number of mandatory units, with optional units added on as appropriate to the learner's role, in order to achieve the total number of unit credits for the qualification.

What makes this course special?

This award is recognised by the QCA and appears on the Qualifications Credit Framework. This course offers the opportunity to demonstrate competent performance of tasks related to work and to develop skills and potential.
Learners are expected to have organised a voluntary placement in an early years setting of at least nine hours a week (250 hours in total) prior to interview. The voluntary placement will need to last the duration of the course.

What are the assessment methods?
There are no written exams for this course. Instead learners will build a portfolio which will include coursework and practical assessments in the workplace.
How long is the course?
Three terms (the course can be started at at any time).
What are the College attendance requirements?
- This course is supported in the workplace via regular visits from an assessor, no attendance at College is required
- Self-study hours will be up to five hours a week
Are there any additional costs for the course?
Learners may like to buy a textbook to help them with this qualification, which can be bought from the College's Learning Resource Centre.
What are the progression options?
On completion of this course learners could apply to do the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator).
Former learners have found paid employment in early years settings, and some have progressed to our Level 3 qualification.
