Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience of sugarcraft and cake decoration looking to extend their skills.

What does the course involve?

Learn how to decorate a celebration sponge cake from scratch.  Over the six weeks you will create beautiful handmade unwired roses, bake a deep sponge to then cut, crumb and cover flawlessly.  The last week will be spent assembling the cake and adding the all-important finishing touches to ensure the cake has the ‘wow’ factor. 

What makes this course special?

This course is run by an experienced sugarcraft tutor and professional wedding cake designer.  The course cost includes the cutters, tape and tools you will need to carry on at home. 

Entry Requirements

Learners will be required to bake a deep sponge cake in readiness for week five. You might want to work in an apron for each session.  From the first week, you will need a deep box with lid, this can be a large cake tin or an A4 paper realm box and a block of dry oasis to safely transport your developing sugarcraft roses.  Please note there is no session on Thursday 4 October.


What are the assessment methods?

The tutor will provide demonstrations and feedback to ensure you know how to accomplish each stage of the process. 

Are there any additional costs for the course?

You will need to provide the ingredients for baking a sponge cake in week five. A recipe will be provided.

What are the progression options?

Further adult evening sugarcraft courses are planned for this academic year.
