Who is the course for?
The NVQ Level 4 in Management is for those managers whose job role affords them personal responsibility and autonomy. It can be in any sector that involves management and leadership responsibilities. At Level 4, the learner can expect to be a middle manager and to hold a more central management role. They will have the ability and the opportunity within their job role to demonstrate a wide range of recognisable management and leadership skills and the management of business processes. This qualification may also suit individuals whose work is mainly related to managing projects or technical matters, as well as those who manage people.
What does the course involve?
The NVQ is related directly to a job role and requires learners to step back and reflect on their performance at work, review working practices and identify any improvements they can make. It provides a personal development opportunity and enhances efficiency within organisations. This programme will run on an individual basis and the assessor will guide on how to build a portfolio of evidence which reflects ability to manage at this level.
Candidates must achieve a minimum of 53 credits. Completion of the mandatory units will provide 17 credits. The remainder will be achieved by completing a selection of optional units (depending on credit value and rules of combination). The assessor will guide on the selection of appropriate units.

The assessor will help to identify the most appropriate units for the learner's individual role.
What makes this course special?
Our NVQs are fully supported through our online portfolio system (OneFile). Candidates have access to their portfolio online in order to upload work, view progress to date (shown as a total percentage) and to contact their dedicated assessor.
The portfolio can be accessed at any time, e.g. at home or in the workplace which makes the submission of work much simpler.
This is a competence based qualification so it is vital that learners work within a management role, this ensures that they are drawing from real experience when providing evidence for the NVQ and when working towards their specific competencies.
It is important that candidates are working within a management position already before enrolling onto the NVQ.
All candidates must be in an appropriate management position. Prior to enrolment, an assessor will arrange to meet the learners and discuss their job role with to ensure that it will afford sufficient scope to provide all of the evidence required.
What are the assessment methods?
The assessor will assess in your workplace, they will provide an induction onto the online portfolio and through subsequent contact, will carry out observations at work, obtain testimonies from colleagues and carry out professional discussions, they will set knowledge questions and use appropriate work product as well as other appropriate assessment methods.
How long is the course?
It is expected that the qualification will take up to two years to achieve however, candidates work at their own pace so can achieve as quickly as they wish, taking into account an appropriate level of contact with their assessor.
What are the College attendance requirements?
There is no requirement to attend College.
What are the progression options?
There are progression opportunities onto the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management or other appropriate management qualification, if within appropriate management position.
This NVQ is currently awarded by Pearson Edexcel.
