Who is the course for?
CIPD qualifications are globally-recognised in the HR field. The Foundation Certificate gives a wide range of relevant, practical skills that can be applied in the workplace and a professional qualification to further a career within HR. It is also valuable for line managers, supervisors and team leaders who would like a recognised qualification to support and enhance their HR/people management responsibilities.
What does the course involve?
Developing Yourself as an Effective Human Resources Practitioner
Which includes study of the CIPD HR Map, creation of a personal development plan, following a self-assessment of learning and development needs, to meet personal and professional requirements.
Understanding Organisations and the Role of Human Resources
Which develops an understanding of how HR activities support an organisation’s strategy and assist the achievement of business objectives and how these are shaped by internal and external factors.
Recording, Analysing and Using Human Resources Information
Which covers data management and presentation for all areas including HR planning, recruitment and selection, performance and reward management, absence management, disciplinary and grievance procedures, as well as the legal constraints.
Which includes the key stages of the recruitment and selection processes, such as developing knowledge and skills to define in defining and writing job descriptions, contributing to the job advertisement process, shortlisting, conducting face–to-face or telephone interviews and contributing to job offer and rejection letters. Key legislation pertaining to recruitment and selection will be covered.
Supporting Good Practice in Managing Employment Relations
A basic understanding of employment law is essential in today’s world to operate effectively in HR, and this module provides an overview of this across the different aspects of HR activity, looking at good practice and legal requirements within each e.g. working time, work life balance, discipline, dismissal.
Supporting Good Practice in Performance and Reward Management
Provides an introduction to the purpose and processes of performance and reward management, developing an understanding of areas such as motivational theories, performance management review, financial and non-financial benefits and important determinants of reward decisions.

The course runs for one academic year, September to June.
What are the College attendance requirements?
One afternoon per week.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
When studying a CIPD qualification learners will need to join as a CIPD Student member to receive theirr certificate and to ensure their qualification is recognised by the CIPD, towards CIPD professional membership. What are the progression options?
Completion of this course enables you to progress to the CIPD Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in HR Management.
