Who is the course for?

This course is for new entrants and smallholders who are exploring the logistics of setting up a small holding and new to completing financial, livestock and crop records.

What does the course involve?

This course will run through the basics of setting up a livestock enterprise with plenty of practical tips on what to do before you start and plenty of do’s and don’ts. There will be practical and theoretical elements and plenty of opportunities for asking questions.  The second day will provide a framework for keeping records and provide some template forms and spreadsheets to help you track financial, livestock and crop records.

What makes this course special?

This subsidised course provides the perfect introduction to embarking on running a small holding.  It takes place on a working farm with a range of livestock.  The course is run by experienced teaching staff with state of the art teaching facilities. 

Are there any additional costs for the course?

The course cost includes everything you will need. Our biosecurity measures include providing the overalls and wellingtons for you during your time on the farm. Lunch is included.  You will need to bring wet weather gear for working out of doors.

What are the progression options?

There are a number of courses running at Rodway Farm and Cannington Walled Garden this year aimed at smallholders or landowners looking to grow their expertise in various aspects of land management.
