Who is the course for?
This course is designed for those who wish to develop their artistic practice. The learner will have the benefit of a supportive and creative environment in a ‘state of the arts’ purpose built facility, whilst working alongside like-minded creative individuals.
What does the course involve?
This is a non-qualification course that will give you the opportunity to work to loosely structured projects that explore a number of creative mediums. The learner will work on 5 weekly projects that cover printmaking, drawing and painting, mixed media, clay-work, 3D, textiles and photography.
What makes this course special?
This course is ideally designed for artists who have perhaps already completed an Access to HE Art and Design course but have for various reasons been unable to follow the more traditional route to HE. We are happy to accept other practitioners who are able to work independently and would value tutor support and access to workshops and facilities.
We would like to invite all potential applicants for an interview before the course starts. In the interview we will look through their portfolio of art-work and clearly set out what we are able to provide in terms of access to staff and facilities. It is important that individuals are able to work independently for some of the time.
What are the assessment methods?
There is no formal assessment process for this course as you will not be working towards a qualification. You will receive regular formative feedback from an experienced instructor and also peer support and critiques.
How long is the course?
One year part-time over thirty weeks split into ten week termly blocks.
What are the College attendance requirements?
Wednesday mornings for tutor-led or supported sessions and an optional afternoon to continue independently.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
Most of the materials required for use on the course are covered in the costs. However, it is anticipated that some mediums might also need additional materials which will be charged at cost to the learner.
What are the progression options?
This course aims to give you the confidence to build your own artistic practice in a supportive environment, this may also lead you to apply to study further at HE level.
