Who is the course for?
This course is ideal for those that have mastered the basics of using a sewing machine and have made attempted to make clothing using a commercial pattern.
What does the course involve?
This course will introduce the basics of adapting a commercial pattern to ensure a garment fits perfectly. We all come in different shapes and sizes and these rarely conform exactly to commercially standard sizings. During the course you will have support to make up a trial garment in calico and undertake a personal project with supervision from the tutor.
What makes this course special?
This subsidised basic sewing course provides the perfect introduction into the complicated world of adapting commercial patterns to ensure a perfect fit.
There are no entry requirements for the course but you will be expected to sew using a domestic sewing machine to a reasonable standard and have used a commercial pattern in the past to make an item of clothing.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
The course cost includes the calico you will need in order to make (and adapt) an item of clothing from a commercial pattern. Learners will need to provide a pattern and enough fabric and finishings (poppers, buttons, zips, piping etc) to complete a project of your choosing from week three onwards. You will be given advice on the suitability of projects to undertake and the materials required to finish your project to a high standard.
What are the progression options?
There are an exciting range of subsidised sewing short courses offered in both Bridgwater and Taunton Campuses over the year.
