Who is the course for?
The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services is a qualification designed to give learners the opportunity to build both managerial and care skills. It fulfils the regulatory requirement for those looking to become managers of children's homes or adult’s residential and domiciliary services. This qualification is for those already working in health and social care, assistant or deputy managers or managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at this level.
The qualification is for, health and social care, children and young people’s services including:
- Residential services for older people
- People with disabilities
- Younger adults, children and young people
- Domiciliary care services
- Day services, respite services and community based services
What does the course involve?
These qualifications will guide and assess development of knowledge, understanding and skills in leadership and management practice within health and social care and children and young people’s services and serves as the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements for the sector in England.
What makes this course special?
A Credit-Based System QCF (Qualifications Credit Framework) is the new way of recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by awarding credit for units (small steps of learning) and enables learners to gain or add onto new or existing qualifications or can offer a work-based solution to specialised learning. Choose from over 40 modules at Levels 5 – 7 to build a bespoke individual learning route or add on additional modules to existing qualifications. QCF is a flexible way of recognising and rewarding skills and qualifications.
This competency–based qualification is designed to be assessed in the candidate’s workplace as they undertake their normal work role. The evidence must at all times reflect the policies and procedures of the workplace as informed by current legislation, the relevant codes of conduct and service standards for the sector.

What are the assessment methods?
The majority of assessment will be work-based, using real experiences, written assessments and observations by a qualified assessor.

How long is the course?
The Diploma can be started flexibly at any time during the year, with an expectation that learners will complete within 24 months of starting.
What are the College attendance requirements?
Attendance at College is not required as the qualification is delivered within the workplace. Current awarding body guidance is 7 – 10 hours independent study per week.
What are the progression options?
This qualification will be the accepted qualification for registration and regulation where appropriate and can demonstrate continuing professional development.
