Course Information

Who is the course for?

These courses are offered either as a Bridgwater College certificated course at the fee advertised, or as an ABC Awards certificated course.

Whether a trainee or a young person interested in learning how to weld and acquiring new skills, are self-employed or an adult wanting to change career, or just looking to improve existing welding skills, then this is the right course.

There are two levels of training to suit specific needs, each covering a range of different welding processes and techniques. This course can provide an industry recognised qualification (if this option is taken) and the acquisition of skills and knowledge in modern welding processes and techniques.

What does the course involve?

One welding process from a choice of MIG, TIG or manual metal arc welding. At Level 2 candidates will learn down hand welding and at Level 3 learners will learn vertical welding. There is a theory element to each of the processes. Learners will also learn about the health and safety associated with welding.

What makes this course special?

Practical classes take place in our specialist and fully equipped welding workshops and delivered by tutors with a number of years of industry experience. Whether working towards the qualification or not, learners will be trained to produce welding joints to a standard of practical proficiency that will meet British Standards BS4872.

Entry Requirements

At Level 3, candidates will either have successfully completed the Level 1 Award or equivalent or will be an experienced welder in a range of welding processes.

What are the assessment methods?

Learners can choose whether or not they wish to work towards achieving the ABC Awards in Welding and Fabrication or to just acquire the welding and fabrication skills without taking the qualification. To achieve the ABC qualification learners will be primarily assessed in the form of practical tests. Each process is assessed via two weld tests along with an accompanying basic theory test.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

There may be additional fees which will be discussed at interview.
