Course Information

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for those who have an interest in or are already employed within the field of engineering maintenance.

Learners will study the basic principles of engineering systems, machinery and their maintenance and modification. Learners will cover aspects of both electrical and mechanical engineering following a largly practical based course that will equip learners with the hands on skills and technical knowledge required for a maintenance engineer in a wide variety of fields.

What does the course involve?

As far as possible the course is practically based and will be covering modules in a variety of areas, which will lead to learners gaining experience in, amongst other things:

  • Working effectively and safely in an engineering environment
  • Engineering principles and practice
  • Principles of electrical & electronic engineering
  • Maintenance of machine systems
  • Mechatronic systems (control of machinery)
  • Maintenance of electrical equipment and systems

Entry Requirements

At least four GCSEs in the range C – E or 4 - 3, including Maths, or a Level 2 qualification in an engineering subject or relevant industrial experience.

What are the assessment methods?

Assessment is by a combination of practical assignments and online multiple choice exams.

How long is the course?

This is a two year course and additional fees maybe payable in the second year.

Are there any additional costs for the course?

There may be optional visits dependingupon interest and time schedules.

What are the progression options?

This qualification will help to progress a career within the engineering industry as a maintenance or systems engineer. Posible progression onto HE engineering courses are possible.
