Course Information

Who is the course for?

For managers working in a technical environment and have technical skills, or are training on the job in engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, drawing office, fitting, tool-making, electrical or mechanical maintenance, then our range of NVQs at Levels 2, 3 and 4 is available with workplace assessment. 

Each NVQ has multiple pathways to cover discrete job functions, and can therefore be tailored to match the job role or intended career progression.

What does the course involve?

  • Engineering management (building and managing teams, budgets and resources)
  • Engineering project management (designing, building and managing project plans, design briefs, drawings and specifications)
  • The Bid Management and tendering process
  • Lead welding and fabrication activities
  • Lead mechanical/electrical or inspection activities
  • General machining
  • Fitting and assembly applications

Entry Requirements

Although no formal qualifications are required for entry, students should have a reasonable level of secondary education and ideally current or recent work experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment. The applicant will have at least a Level 3 qualification.

What are the assessment methods?

To complete an NVQ, the required standards of work must be observed and assessed by a Bridgwater College engineering assessor - this will be discussed at the first meeting.

Bridgwater College can run multiple NVQs and pathways as part of a packaged programme of development.

How long is the course?

From 18 months to 24 months.

What are the College attendance requirements?

None, all work is assessed in the workplace.
