Who is the course for?

A practical course designed for the professional user or anyone who requires the National Proficiency Test Council (NPTC) Certificate of Competence.

What does the course involve?

The course covers current legislation, operation, safe use and maintenance of a chainsaw.

What makes this course special?

It gives you the practical skills and underpinning knowledge that is required prior to being assessed for the Certificate of Competence, as required by legislation.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements; you will only need an interest in the subject and a willingness to learn.

You will be required to bring the following:

  • Steel-toe capped boots
  • Two passport photographs
  • Lunch - please bring a packed lunch and flask, although refreshments are available for purchase on-site.

The use of a chainsaw and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are provided: chainsaw boots, trousers, helmet and gloves. You may also bring your own equipment should you wish.

What are the assessment methods?

A practical assessment with an external assessor for NPTC CS30.1 and CS30.2 following the two-day course.

How long is the course?

The course is held on demand and is for two days plus half day assessment.

What are the progression options?

This course is a pre-requisite of progressing to NPTC CS31 Felling Small Trees.
