Who is the course for?
This course will apply to students who wish to follow a career in wood occupations.
The Bridgwater College Construction Centre is a dedicated facility for construction craft in wood occupations , with workshops that are well-equipped with a range of carpentry tools. Well-appointed classrooms and computer facilities enhance the workshops and provide a link between practical and knowledge aspects of the course.
What does the course involve?
This course is made up and a number of units, up to 16 in total. All units have a practical and theory element, which means you will be able to work at your own pace to complete the number that are required to achieve the full level 1 qualification. You will also sample a number of other trades including carpentry and electrical, giving you a rounded understanding of the Construction Industry in general.
You will need GCSEs in the A* – E or 9 - 3 range or other equivalent qualifications. You will also need to complete a successful interview and induction.
What are the assessment methods?
Carpentry practical coursework will be marked through set practical tasks. Underpinning knowledge is assessed via internally-set test papers and on line exams; however there will be a need to complete a multiple choice test that is externally set by the awarding body.
How long is the course?
This is a one year programme.
What are the progression options?
You could progress on to an Apprenticeship in either brickwork or carpentry & joinery if suitable employment is gained, or a full-time course in Site Joinery.
