Who is the course for?
Are you looking to start a career in IT but don’t know where to start developing the specialist skills required?
If you are looking for a route to a career and higher qualifications in IT and Computing fields such as programming, software development, networking, technical support, network security or information systems then this course can provide you the means to kickstart that journey.
Using up to date, industry-led methods, equipment and software, the Level 2 Diploma in Creative Technology help you to develop your skills through programming applications, web site development, multimedia applications, creation of computer networks and maintenance of computer systems. The Level 2 Diploma in Creative Technology is an ideal springboard for progression to Level 3 Computing and Creative Technology qualifications.
What does the course involve?
The course involves a mix of theoretical and practical units. Learners will develop websites in HTML and CSS, as well as creating software programs in Visual Studio.
We work with learners to set up different types of networks as well as building PC’s from scratch and learning to configure them for different requirements.

Using the proven BTEC Level 2 qualifications, the Level 2 Diploma provides a strong background and entry point for students wanting to beging the journey of developing an IT career. The course makes extensive use of practical learning to develop skills required by industry and develop real understanding of computing and the creative uses of technology.
Using specialist facilities and taking advantage of the College’s strong IT resources, you will use the latest software and learn practical hardware and networking skills in our hardware laboratories. Run by highly skilled staff with extensive education and industry experience, the course has a proven record of progression to higher level courses all the way to degree level. The wide range of skills developed allows learners to choose and specialise their progression into fields whilst allowing a full exploration of the range of opportunities available in IT careers.
The course also includes work experience opportunities, personal development and a range of trips and visits to support the course material and develop employable characteristics such as team work.
The College has a good relationship with a range of employers in the area to enable you to gain real work experience during your course. Our Placement co-ordinator will liaise with you to ensure that your chosen placement is successful.
- Five GCSEs in the A* – E or 9 - 3 range

What are the assessment methods?
Assessment is through a variety of examinations and coursework-based methods including:
- Examinations (external assessments)
- Case studies
- Observation of practical work
- Work-based projects
Assignments may involve:
- Individual research
- Group work
- Surveys project work
- Oral and visual presentations etc.
How long is the course?
One year, full-time.
What are the College attendance requirements?
The expectation is that you will maintain a minimum 90% attendance.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
Whilst there are no additional fees for the course you will be expected to bring a memory stick, pens and paper. There are a number of exciting optional trips throughout the year that will incur expenses.
What are the progression options?
Progression options for the Level 2 Diploma in Creative Technologies include Level 3 courses in related fields including the College’s own suite of Level 3 courses as well as Apprenticeship courses at Level 2 and Level 3.
The majority of our students progress to Level 3 qualifications in IT, Computing and Media. Previous students from the course have progressed through the Level 3 courses to University level courses both at the College and at prestigious Universities across the country.
