Who is the course for?
This course is ideal if you wish to further your interest in business and marketing. There is an emphasis on employees being work ready, so business skills and qualifications are more important than ever in today’s dynamic modern economy. On completion, you will be ready for employment, Higher Education or to start your own business.
What does the course involve?
This qualification puts emphasis on real-world business rather than being limited to theory. You will prepare for the workplace by developing marketing and entrepreneurial skills. The course consists of both mandatory and optional units, including:
- Exploring a business
- Personal and business finance
- Managing an event
- Market research
- Visual Merchandising
- International business
- Digital marketing
- Pitching for a new business
What makes this course special?
There are a number of reasons why this course is special; one is the resource provided for you with regards to computers and IT. Secondly, the staff team has industrial and commercial experience. The course also has official recognition from such organisations as the University of the West of England, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, Saracens RFU, John Lewis, Barclays Bank and many others.
There are a number of different work placements offered on this course. In the past students have worked with external clients to undertake market research, promote the digital campaign and social media marketing and web design. Furthermore, the work placement initiative will provide you will valuable experiences and opportunities for you to deploy your knowledge and skills.
You need five GCSEs in the A* to C or 9 to 4 range including English and Maths, or a relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade. Acceptance is subject to a successful interview.
What are the assessment methods?
The majority of subjects are internally assessed through assignment work graded at pass, merit, and distinction. Some units are externally assessed either through an on-screen exam or external controlled assessment.
How long is the course?
Two years, full-time.
What are the College attendance requirements?
The College expects 100% attendance across all areas of study programme whether this is the Business lessons, work placement, enrichment or Maths and English.
You are expected to be in College for a minimum of 15 hours a week, although they are not limited to this as the Learning Resource Centre and other areas are open throughout the week for extra study time.
Are there any additional costs for the course?
There are no compulsory additional costs that come with this course, however, we recommend you attend all educational study visits and residential including Jaguar Land Rover, Cadbury World, EDF B Station, Warner Bro’s Studio, and Manchester, Milan and New York residential. Educational visits will come at a small cost to each learner through a variety of prices depending on the trip. Residential will be sourced at competitive prices.
If you want to achieve highly in this course you will need to complete coursework and study in your own time and to do this we recommend having a PC/Laptop available to you during your evenings/weekends.
What are the progression options?
On successful completion of the Level 3 qualification, you could progress to the Foundation Degree in Business Management or BA (Hons) Business Administration at the University Centre Somerset. Alternatively, you have the option to progress into the industry, obtain a Higher or Degree Level Apprenticeship or start an Internship.
Many of our students choose to continue their studies at Higher Education after they have finished their course. A number of students choose to continue at the College whilst others study elsewhere to fulfill their ambition of working within the business on junior management programmes.
